Jakarta: General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan has confirmed that the agency will change the format of the presidential debate.
"The format will be more dynamic. The candidates can be more relaxed," Wahyu told reporters on Friday, February 1, 2019.
As many as five presidential election debates will be held in the capital city of Jakarta from January until April. The candidates will explain their thoughts and views on various issues.
The second debate will take place at Sultan Hotel in Central Jakarta on February 17. It will focus on Infrastructure, energy, agriculture, natural resources and environemnt.
"We will not limit their interactions. We don't want to disturb the candidates," Wahyu said.
Indonesia will hold the first ever simultaneous general and presidential elections in April 17. Voters will elect the president and lawmakers on the same day.
In order to run for presidency, incumbent President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo is endorsed by PDIP, Golkar Party, PKB, PPP, NasDem Party, Hanura Party, PKPI, PBB, Perindo Party and PSI. In the meantime, key opposition leader Prabowo Subianto is supporrted by Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PAN, PKS and Berkarya Party.
